PG Cert Higher Education

The PG Cert HE is delivered by the Department of Leadership and Professional Development. It is an  online course which can be taken over 12-18 months, providing flexibility of study. This qualification recognises the professionalism of HE educators and provides opportunities for debate, experimentation and collaboration with other academics. Colleagues can graduate with either Fellowship or Senior Fellowship of the HEA according to the pattern of modules taken.

The course also offers a choice of  option modules in Supervising Student Research, Digital and Mobile Learning, Leadership in an Academic Context and Blended Learning.

If you successfully completed the PG Cert HE prior to its accreditation as part of the PRESTige scheme in 2014 you will also be entitled to  Fellowship of the HEA. If you have not yet applied for your certificate please contact staffdev@westminster.ac.uk.

Special study in supporting learning university certificate

The University also offers a one semester course for colleagues with a role in supporting learning including doctoral students, technicians and academic librarians. This module provides a practice-orientated engagement with key issues and themes in learning and teaching. Graduates of the course are also made Associate Fellows of the HEA.

The Department of Leadership and Professional Development also provide training in teaching in HE as part of the Doctoral Researcher Development Programme offered by the Graduate School.

Between April and July 2014, the University of Westminster’s Helen Pokorny, Federica Oradini, and Ana E. Carballo undertook and analysis and evaluation of the online delivery of the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PG Cert HE)

The aim of the report was, firstly, to evaluate the success of the Pg Cert HE award in terms of student satisfaction and the impact it has had on the participants’ professional development and practice as teachers in HE, and secondly to learn from the experiences of participants and tutors on the course.
