News from the launch of the CTI

The Westminster Centre for Teaching Innovation was formally launched in March with a celebration event. Colleagues from the University of Westminster, other HEIs and partner organisations were welcomed by Professor Roland Dannreuther, DVC, Student Experience and Professor Terry Lamb, Head of the CTI and heard a keynote speech from Christopher Newfield, Professor of literature and American studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, on ‘Innovative Teaching and the Public Good’.

Guests were also given a taster of exciting innovations happening around the University with students Kiu Sum and Anna Dolidze talking about their experience of Students as Co-Creators; Jordi Cortes and Francisco Gimeno Ruiz introducing the work of the Democratic Education Network; and Dr Paresh Kathrani and Markos Mentzelopoulos introducing their inter-disciplinary REVRLaw project that will pilot an innovative virtual reality computer game that helps Law students explore a real case scenario. We also heard from contributors to the event about how teaching innovation is brought to life at Westminster. They highlighted the inspiring and motivating collaborative working between students and staff; the immersive technology that can enhance students’ learning and engagement, and the culture of innovation already alive at Westminster which the CTI will strengthen by bringing together, building on and sharing these innovative practices.
